On Monday 9th March, the children in KS1 went on a very exciting and educational trip to St Paul's Cathedral in London. They travelled by train to London which was an extra special treat! On arriving at St Paul's, the children had an opportunity to walk around the perimeter of the building taking in all the interesting monuments and seeing the beautiful cherry blossom on the trees. Then it was time to go inside! The children explored the crypt, had a wonderful workshop on the architecture of St Paul's and even got to visit the Whispering Gallery, which is located 30 metres up inside the famous dome. It was a magical day out and we are very grateful to our wonderful FOCs parents who helped to support us with the transport.
The children are thoroughly enjoying finding out about the Great Fire of London. This week the children were astonished to see an old wooden box in the classroom after lunch. After looking inside, they discovered that there were some clues inside. We read the clues and found more in different places in the school, until it lead to an area in the garden. We dug into the soil and discovered some treasure! When we looked inside, we found it was Samuel Pepy's wine and cheese. The children were delighted and it really helped to engage them in their learning. Mrs Miles
What a fabulous first week we have had back at school this week.At the beginning of the week, the playground was blanketed with a light flurry of snow, which brought great excitement to the children. At playtime, they explored all the Continuous Provision activities, the slushy maker, frozen balloon shapes and even worked as a team to collect enough snow to make Snowy, our own little snowman
Happpy Christmas from all at Castlethorpe School!
Our Lebkuchen are finished, ready to take home to enjoy with loved ones. As is the tradition in Germany, we hung them on our beautiful Christmas tree, which has been bought for the children by our wonderful parents in FOCs 🎄
This is a special type of gingerbread made specifically at Christmas time. Traditionally, Lebkuchen is cut into heart shapes, decorated, then given to a loved one at Christmas to hang on the tree. The children really enjoyed learning about this tradition and also enjoyed making them for their loved ones to enjoy.
In DT, KS1 have been learning about breads from the world and enjoyed trying a range of different types. In RE, they learned all about the Jewish festival of Sukkot and how challah bread is traditionally eaten during this time.
