About Our School

Castlethorpe First School is a small and friendly school in the heart of our village.

We provide a high standard of education where children enjoy a friendly and caring introduction to school life. We create a stimulating environment in which all children can develop into well-motivated independent learners. Children learn to take responsibility for themselves and demonstrate care and respect for their local community.

We have strong links within the village community. We also encourage the children and their parents and carers to find out about and be involved in village life and the surrounding area.

The school itself is a Victorian building–full of character–that has undergone regular modernisation to provide a bright and cheerful learning environment, with fully integrated modern technology such as interactive whiteboards, laptops and tablets.

The outside playground has well maintained play equipment, including a reading garden and covered area too, one of the delightful surprises to people visiting for the first time.

Because the school is small, each child gets to be well known by every member of our school team; each child’s progress is closely monitored by the teachers, enabling teaching and learning strategies to be tailored for individual children. Children participate with ease in our small learning groups–great for building self confidence–and which enables any learning difficulties to be recognised early, and appropriate supportive action to be taken. Similarly, those children showing ability beyond their peers are encouraged to develop on an individual basis with learning that continue to stretch them.

We have excellent relationships with the nursery. We also work closely with other local schools to which our children transfer at the age of 7.
