Trip to Holdenby House
Thu 16 Oct 2025This half term year 1 and 2 are studying life in the past. This covers homes, toys, transport, communication and appliances. EYFS are learning all about homes and the past. Holdenby House is a wonderful stately house in Northamptonshire. The children will have an opportunity to work in a Victorian kitchen, pretend to be a servant and possibly meet Queen Victoria! The children will need to dress up in Victorian clothes for the day but this can be done with their existing school uniform if you don't want to buy anything special. More details about this will follow soon.

Toscana Strings Quintet Visit Castlethorpe First School!
Tue 26 Nov 2024The experiences which the children are given at Castlethorpe First School are really very special! On Friday, we were visited by Toscana Strings a multi-award winning string quintet https://www.toscanastrings.co.uk/. They provide schools with opportunities to listen to a professional orchestra. What is even more special is that they intertwine the music around different stories as well as from classical music. The children were given a workshop on the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. In addition to the music, there was also a professional ballerina to accompany the orchestra. The children were captivated and mesmerised throughout the whole performance, you could have heard a pin drop! They were even given an impromptu ballet lesson at the end, which they thoroughly enjoyed. A very special day, organised by Danielle Kipling the VSF music lead from Newton Blossomville.

Forest Schools at Castlethorpe
Tue 26 Nov 2024If you go down to the woods today,
You're in for a great surprise!!
Yes, that's right, Forest Schools has started for Castlethorpe First School children! Each week they will be attending a Forest School session, led by VSF Forest Lead Lisa Humphries. Ofsted has described her sessions as 'magical!' Having attended the first session, I can vouch that it really was a very magical experience, which even brought a glorious sun-baked day! All the children have been given brand new waterproof raincoats and trousers by our wonderful Castlethorpe FOCs ! These will allow them to really immerse themselves in the sessions. During these sessions, the children will learn about bushcraft, different trees and plants, how to keep safe, den making, forest school art, and lots, lots more!
